Chapter 10 T'ai Chi Harmony 91
For health T'ai Chi, you must want to achieve something (spirit or
motivation) from your effort (intent). This will then stimulate the power
(energy) required for healing or improvement (generated strength).
Internal Harmony Provides Inner Strength
In summary, you must have the will to achieve a goal; have the intent to carry it
through; so that force required will be generated . Your goal will then be fulfilled.
All three internal harmonies are required for effectiveness.
The spirit must be willing to be effective
The Six Harmonies Together As One
So how does this apply to T'ai Chi for health exercise?
As we see above, each of the groups, the three internal and three external
harmonies, must work together within themselves for effective strength.
The two groups must also work with each other to provide overall strength and
effect. The internal requires the external to implement the goal and equally the
internal requires the external. This is why those that practise (and teach) T'ai Chi
movement aerobically, just copying movement, will never achieve the full benefit -
the internal will be incomplete as the intent will be missing, and the external will
almost certainly be incomplete because correct alignment will not be there.
The six harmonies are very important from the martial viewpoint, but are equally so
when using T'ai Chi in a health regime where the 'self-defence' is against ill-health
and 'dis-ease'. You must have a strong spirit to practise properly and overcome
and work within your abilities. Your mindset and intention must be clear and
focused. Do this and the effect of the healing energy (Qi) will be maximised.
Learning to maintain good posture and alignment will improve balance and ensure
minimum joint and body stress during movement.
The Six Harmonies will all be working as one
